As part of our ESRC funded research on Vocal Learning in Adulthood, we prepared samples of speech with accompanying real-time MRI video of the vocal tract from 55 talkers.

Each talker produced 16 English sentences from the BKB (Bamford-Kowal-Bench) corpus, as well as a variety of simple English consonant-vowel monosyllables, while 1-slice whole-head sagittal images were taken at a rate of 8 frames per second. Example videos from a representative talker can be viewed below and the entire database will soon be made available by the UK Data Service both in presentation (mp4 videos with denoised soundtrack) and analysis (uncompressed silent AVI videos with separate raw WAV soundtrack) formats.

We hope that the database will be useful for teachers/instructors, students and researchers interested in speech motor behaviour.
